For over 20 years, beekeeper Mary Woltz has witnessed how climate change is devastating the bee population in Sag Harbor, Long Island — erratic temperature swings, habitat loss, and food shortages are wiping out hives. But beyond the environmental crisis, beekeeping itself has become competitive, with some beekeepers sabotaging others—years back Mary found gasoline poured into her hives and caught another beekeeper relabeling her honey as their own. Even with these difficulties she has dedicated her life to serving and advocating for the bees, who she also calls her children, sharing their story, and fighting for their survival in an industry that’s becoming just as volatile as the climate.
